I am working in Bollywood as per my plan: Madhuri

Actress Madhuri Dixit, who will be seen in two upcoming Hindi films, is happy to work with a new crop of talented actors and says she has been working in Bollywood as per her own plan.

Madhuri is set to stage a comeback in Bollywood after a gap of six years with two projects - Vishal Bharadwaj's home production Dedh Ishqiya and Anubhav Sinha-produced Gulab Gang.

She has also done an item song in Karan Johar's home production Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which released today.

"I don't why people call it a comeback... It is a mystery to me. Everyone works according to their plan. The vibe from industry people is positive... People love me and are waiting to see ,Gulab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya," Madhuri told.

After her marriage in 1999 to a US-based surgeon, she did Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas in 2002. She then took a break and staged a comeback with Aditya Chopra's home production Aaja Nachle in 2007.

Despite missing from the silver screen, the 46-year-old filmstar was very much present on small screen. She appeared as one of the judges in TV dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa in season four and five. She will be again judging the show in its sixth edition that starts from June 1.

After marriage, Madhuri relocated to US for almost a decade. But in 2011, she shifted her base back to Mumbai along with her family.

Gulab Gang, directed by newcomer Soumik Sen, also stars Juhi Chawla, Mahie Gill, Shilpa Shukla and others.

"I have done everything in this film - fight scene, dancing and singing. It is an entertaining film. We are saying quite a few things through this film but in an entertaining way. It is not a heavy film which delivers sermons. It was good working with a new crop of actors. They were full of energy, have ideas and are confident. It was wonderful working with talented actors," she added.

In the late 1980s and early 90s, Madhuri and Juhi Chawla were considered on-screen competitors. But now, they are working together on Gulab Gang, loosely based on a group of women fighting against social injustice.

"I have worked with Juhi for the first time (in this film) and she is a wonderful co-star. We have some niceinteresting scenes together," Madhuri said.

For Gulab Gang, Madhuri did sing a few lines with her mother Snehlata. "They wanted a voice for a particular sequence, not a proper song. With a couple of instruments playing in the background, they wanted the actress (Madhuri) to break into a song. They wanted to make it realistic, so when the director asked me, I thought about it and agreed." Madhuri said the artistic talent in her is because of her mother, who has interest in music.

"My mother couldn't learn dance but made her daughters learn it. We got those things from her. I took her aside and asked her to sing one line for me (for 'Gulab Gang' song). She sang and I was like "mom you have made your debut at 80," she said. Her other project is Dedh Ishqiya, directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The first part (Ishqiya in 2010) got rave reviews and healthy box office collections.

For the sequel the makers have retained lead actors Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. Madhuri is expecting positive response to the sequel as well.

Sanjay Dutt shifted to Yerwada in Pune

Sanjay Dutt who surrendered last week, post his sentencing by the TADA court, was shifted to Pune's Yerwada prison. He will spend the next 42 months there to complete his jail term.

The 53 year old actor, who was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case for illegal possession of weapons, has earlier served time twice there. However, unlike earlier when he was incarcerated while under trail, Dutt will now be spending time as a convict. The actor will hence have to wear jail uniform this time; he will be allotted a 'qaidi' or prisoner number soon, which will be prefixed with letter 'C' symbolizing that he is a convict.

The actor is expected to be lodged in what is known as the "Anda cell" at the Pune jail, which is egg-shaped. Half of it is sunk into the ground and is considered one of the most secure cells in the prison.

Abhishek to play gangster in Shootout sequel

Sanjay Gupta's recent release Shootout At Wadala did very well at the box office. Now that the director- producer a successful comeback, he is already contemplating a third installment to the franchise.

In fact Gupta recently stated that he will next be restarting the long overdue Sanjay Dutt starrer filmAlibaug, post which he will divert his attention to an 'Epic revenge saga', which turns out to be the third installment in the Shootout franchise. Further Gupta says that he is looking forward to casting Abhishek Bachchan alongside John Abraham in the film.

Though the film is yet to be titled, we hear that Abhishek will be seen playing the character of a real life Hindu gangster while John's character will be based on the real encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar. While Abhi and John take the lead, the rest of the cast will comprise of an ensemble crew.

Why is Karishma banned from wearing heels in GRAND MASTI?

The gorgeous actress will now be seen in Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar's GRAND MASTI, which is a sequel to the hit film of 2004 MASTI, where she will be paired opposite Vivek Oberoi

Karishma has won several hearts of the Indian audiences with her charming persona and with her model-like figure the 5'8inches tall lass has been giving all her modelling contemporaries a run for their money!

Surely, one of the tallest actresses that we have in B-Town today Karishma happens to be almost as tall as her GRAND MASTI co-star Vivek Oberoi.

The actress however had to leave her modelling days behind as she was soon banned from wearing heels thanks to her co-star Vivek!....Vivek who is barely two inches taller than her (5'10inches) would look shorter than Karishma if she wore any heels while shooting their sequences together, hence Director Indra Kumar and the styling team ensured she wore flats throughout her scenes with him! Initially, she was upset as she loves to wear heels and cannot imagine moving about without them but, later on sportingly let go off it.

When asked about this hilarious turn of events, a source quips, "Yes we had to ban Karishma from wearing heels as she ended up looking taller than everyone, including her own co-star Vivek! Induji and Ashok Thakeriaji convinced her to get styled with flat shoes instead and she very sportingly agreed, with a smile!"

Maruti International's GRAND MASTI is produced by Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar with direction by Indra Kumar!

Sanjay Dutt feels suffocated in jail

Sanjay Dutt who surrendered on May 16 before the special TADA court in Mumbai in order to complete his three-and-a-half year sentence in prison, was worried about the conditions in jail. The troubled Bollywood actor was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case for possession of arms including AK-56 rifles.
After surrendering, Dutt was allowed to carry the Bhagavad Gita, Hanuman Chalisa and Ramayana with him. The court also permitted him home cooked food, medicines, a pillow, a mattress and toiletries. But being sent in the cell at Arthur Road Jail that hold terrorists and other dreaded criminals, 53-year-old actor read some spiritual books he brought along with him. He also did physical exercise this morning. However, the actor appeared restless and kept to himself.
On Friday Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant, appeared before the Tada court and argued that Dutt was not a terrorist and did not deserve to be lodged in the anda cell. Apparently, the absence of ventilation made him restless. He was later shifter from the anda cell to another cell.
Depending on the threat perception to his life officials have to choose between Yerawada in Pune, Nashik, Taloja, Kolhapur and Nagpur prisons. It looks like he might be here for the next seven to eight days until the pofficials decide which jail to shift him to.

Saif Ali Khan talks about daughter Sara's Bollywood aspirations

New Delhi: Star kids Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor have made an impressive debut and many others including Tiger Shroff, Athiya Shetty, Sooraj Panscholi and Karan Deol are on the verge of making a grand entry into the world of Hindi Cinema.

And the list of celeb kids also includes Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara whose Bollywood aspiration is under speculation.

However, Papa Khan has reservations about his daughter pursuing a fimli career before she completes her education.

“Whether she can be or not is a separate question. I don’t know for sure. I think she likes the idea of getting into movies. But at the moment she is pursuing academics, so let’s see where that goes,” the Nawab of Pataudi said.

“Gone are the days when you had to do it by the age of 16,” he added.

However, the actor is happy that his daughter is keen on completing her education first before making any decision about her career.

“Sara has just joined Columbia University and I am very happy and relieved,” he said.

Sara Ali Khan came in the limelight after posing with mother
Amrita Singh (Saif’s ex-wife) on the cover of a leading magazine.

Sanjay Gupta wants to cast John Abraham as 'Bollywood Rambo'

Actor John Abraham and director Sanjay Gupta will be teaming up for 'an epic revenge saga' that promises to give Bollywood its own Rambo, the iconic Hollywood character.
After the box-office success of just-released Shootout at Wadala, Gupta and John are keen to come together again for a film which will be an epic revenge saga. It will be on the lines of Hollywood blockbusters like Kill Bill and Django Unchained, a statement said here today.
The makers promise to give this untitled venture a similar status that actor Sunny Deol's Ghayal enjoyed. It will see John doing some high adrenaline stunts.
"The revenge saga is on the lines of a Bollywood Rambo. When dabbling with the script the director could think of no one better than John to essay the role of the protagonist since he has the physique to carry off the character and is synonymous with action," the statement said.
The film will be made on par with international standards with a contemporary linear treatment, it added.
John, who emerged as an action hero post success of 2011 film Force, worked with Gupta for the first time in Shootout at Wadala, a crime thriller that also stars Anil Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai, Kangna Ranaut, Tusshar Kapoor and Sonu Sood.

I’m neither macho nor metrosexual: Arjun

Mumbai: Model-cum-actor Arjun Rampal prefers to bill himself as a normal guy and neither a macho man nor metrosexual.

"Neither am I metrosexual nor a macho. I am normal. Metrosexual does not mean he is gay. I don’t wear nail paint etc," Arjun, who is one of the big names of model industry said at a Nivea event. Arjun, who was voted as most desirable man and also the face of Nivea, feels that being desirable or sought-after is just a perception.

"I don’t take such titles seriously. It feels good when your fans vote for you. My friends make fun of me and touch me," he chuckled.

Arjun said that he did not believe in promoting whitening of skin as it sounds racist.

"I endorse product that I use. I think everybody should be fashionable, there is nothing wrong in it. I think one must wear what they are comfortable with and not  follow others," he said.

Arjun will be next seen in upcoming film, D-Day. PTI

Sanjay Dutt to surrender before TADA court on Thursday

New Delhi: Actor Sanjay Dutt will surrender before a designated TADA court on Thursday in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case after the court allowed him today to withdraw his application seeking to give himself up before Yerwada jail authorities in Pune.

Dutt's lawyer Subhash Jadhav told the special court this morning that the actor wanted to withdraw the application filed yesterday and that he would surrender before the court tomorrow. The court allowed the plea to be withdrawn.

53-year-old Dutt has been convicted under the Arms Act and sentenced to five year jail term. On May 10, the apex court had dismissed Dutt's plea seeking review of its judgement on his conviction and five-year jail term.

Dutt was earlier granted four weeks more time to surrender to undergo the remaining jail term. The Supreme Court, on March 21, had upheld his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, which it said was engineered by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and others with the involvement of Pakistan's ISI.

However, the apex court had reduced to five years the six-year jail term awarded to Dutt by a designated TADA court in 2006 while ruling out his release on probation, saying the "nature" of his offence was "serious".

Dutt was convicted by the TADA court for illegally possessing a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle, which were part of a consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700 in 1993.

Is Ajay Devgn jealous of Shahrukh Khan?

A BollywoodLife reader is sure that SRK’s favourite co-star Kajol’s husband is envious of his success

It’s a known and accepted fact in B-town that actors Ajay Devgn and Shahrukh Khan are not the best of friends. Wethinks the reason for this is not just professional rivalry, but also the closeness that SRK and Ajay’s wife Kajol share. SRK-Kajol have also been voted as one of the most romantic onscreen pairs of Bollywood, especially for films like Dilwale Dulhania Le JayengeKuch Kuch Hota Hai andKabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
Ajay recently made it clear that SRK was just an acquaintance. He said, “Salman Khan is a friend and I don’t mind working with him…. As far as Shahrukh is concerned, he is just an acquaintance…I work with people I am comfortable with.” Ouch!
Now we don’t know if that remark pinched SRK, but it did hurt his fans. A BollywoodLife reader who goes by the name rima lagu (strangely similar to an actor’s name) commented on the Ajay-SRK rivalry, saying, “Professional jealousy. Kajal teamed up with SRK and successful as on screen pair. He teamed up with Kajol but it didn’t work. If a dumb character is created who can only do stunts, Ajoy fits there most. He can neither act nor do comedy. His films succeed but all were multi starred, whether Golmal or Bol B.chan.”
To which reader SKF replied, rather furiously, “@RIMA if u’ve watched films like “zakhm”, “takshak” and “the legend of bhagat singh” then u wouldn’t have write such thing. If u didn’t watch these movies watch them and then decide by your mind who’s gon’na learn acting from whom???????”
Whew – we don’t know if we want to be a part of the fight! But you can be. Do you agree that Ajay Devgn is jealous of Shahrukh Khan’s success? Type in your comments below

Ranbir carries forward Kapoor legacy in Russia

It is a well-known fact that Kapoors have enjoyed a long standing professional and personal relationship with the Russians. Now after Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, it is Ranbir Kapoor who would be taking the tradition forward. His upcoming film YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI is all set to see a major release in Russia.

''That's true,'' informs our source, ''The film is carrying tremendous buzz and there is a huge market which is currently developing in Russia for Bollywood films.

Decades back it was Raj Kapoor's films that used to do really well there. Some time back Rishi Kapoor too was honoured by Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for his exemplary contribution to cinema. Now Ranbir too has made inroads into the Russian market and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI would be a major step in that direction.''

Unlike many Hindi films that just aim at the Indian Diaspora, the Karan Johar production would be actually reaching out to the local audience from Russia and other CIS countries.

Confirms Kumar Ahuja of Eros (who are releasing the film there), 'That's right, we are dubbing the film in Russian and other local languages. Ranbir is the youngest superstar around and we can foresee him being welcomed in this market with extended arms.''

The film's release there would be deferred by a few weeks to account for dubbing and pre-release promotion.

Meanwhile another major film of Ranbir, ROCKSTAR, too is readied for a release there. Though a year has gone by since it hit the Indian screens, apparently A.R. Rahman's music has caught up in a big way over the months, especially 'Sadda Haq'

''For Ranbir, this is a great exposure into some unexplored market,'' says a filmmaker, ''His BARFI! has already released in Turkey and now with YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI and ROCKSTAR going to CIS, there is a lot to look forward to for him.''

And for the Kapoor family of course.

The dusky beauty shifted to Mumbai to give her career another shot. But according to the grapevines that did not go down well with her golfer husband Jyoti Randhawa. There were several news reports in the last one year suggesting that not everything was hunky dory in their relationship, but they denied the rumours. 'Thanks Mom' says Bollywood

With Mother's Day being celebrated Sunday, some of Bollywood's well-known celebrities remember the memorable moments they spent with their mothers and feel they are not meant to be loved for just one day.

Here is what they have to say:

Arjun Rampal: I want to travel with my mother around the world to all the destinations she would love. I want to tell her that if I were to be born again then I want to be born only as her child. She is the most beautiful and best mom in the world.

Pooja Bhatt: I think it's time to discard the Mother's Day cliches and promise to mother her in the twilight of her life. All parents and children have to reverse roles eventually. That is the natural order of life!

Aditi Rao Hydari: My mother brought me up single handedly with strength and grace. I love her beyond measure and never cease to value the life she gave me, full of freedom, beauty, love and dignity.

Parineeti Chopra: My love for my mother is boundless. I want to take her for a trip to Switzerland as soon as I find the time.

Divya Dutta: I want to thank my mother for giving me the freedom to be an actress when everyone wanted me to be a doctor like her. And I want to thank her for letting me take her for granted and for not judging me and loving me unconditionally. And most of all I love my mother for giving me the most comfortable place to forget my stress, her lap.

Adnan Sami: There's no worldly gift worthy of a mother who has gifted me with life. There are no adequate words to thank my mother , nothing with which I say can express my gratitude for carrying me for 9 months before I was ready to face the world. Even now I crave to rush back to that safe haven.

Shabana Azmi: I just want to say three simple words to my mother: I love you. I am because she is.

Urmila Matondkar: I can't thank my mother enough for making me the person I am.I am still learning from her every day. I want to gift her a medicine that would keep her illness-free forever. I want to see her healthy and beautiful forevever.

Dino Morea: For Mother's Day I'd want to again thank my mom for this beautiful life she has given me, and for my super upbringing. Thanks for being there for us brothers, no matter what. I'd like to gift her the world.

Minissha Lamba: It's my mom who has made me what I am today. I want to thank her for all the love and attention that she poured into me to make me a good humanbeing.

Kalki Koechlin: My mother, the strong stubborn conscientious influence of my life.I'll get her something from Delhi where I'm shooting.

Mahaakshay Chakraborty: I'd like to tell my mom(former actress Yogeeta Bali) that she's truly the greatest mother in the world.I've seen many mothers. But none like her..She gave up her career to devote her life completely to her family and children. I'd love to take mom to the Wimbledon finals specially if Nadal is playing.

Dia Mirza: I am very proud of my mom.I AM because she IS.I am going to give her a Mother's Day filled with surprises.

Chitrangda Singh: The best gift for my mother I can think of is to take a holiday with her.And I should promise to call her three times a day every day. There is nothing she and I would like better. She is the most important person in my life.

Darsheel Safary: I would like to wish her 'Happy Mothers Day' and thank her for supporting me in my school, acting work and whatever I do. I will give a card and chocolates.

Aggarwal, who recently wrapped up shooting for Sanjay Dutt starrer Policegiri, says the actor’s wife Manyata ‘may step in’ to promote the film, but clarified nothing has been finalised yet. “We have not decided how to promote the film. Manyata Dutt may step in, but I can’t confirm on that. I will have a meeting with Sanjay before we decide anything,”  said Aggarwal.
“Sanjay has finished the shooting a few days back. He has even finished the dubbing, so the film is ready,” he added. Sanjay, whose was hoping to get relief in 1993 Mumbai blasts, is expected to surrender on May 16 after Supreme Court Friday rejected his review petition. The actor’s conviction under the Arms Act in 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case was upheld by the apex court. The top court, while upholding Sanjay’s conviction under the Arms Act, has reduced his sentence from six years to five years. With the rejection of his plea, he is expected to surrender to serve his remaining three-and-half-year term.
Aggarwal said: “It’s very sad that his plea was rejected. He has already suffered a lot. I am still hoping things might change.” He also feels Policegiri is one of Sanjay’s best work so far. “The film is looking really good. I can assure you this is one of Sanjay Dutt’s best work so far. The film is slated for July 5 release and I believe we have made a good film.”
Policegiri, a Hindi remake of 2003 Tamil hit Saamy, is directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar and it also features Prachi Desai in the female lead.
